چکیده

We present yb time–series CCD photometry of the high–amplitude δ Scuti star V 1162 Ori. A period break and a significant decrease in amplitude (50 percent) has been reported for this star by Hintz et al. (1998). New observations carried out over two observing seasons suggest that the period found by Hintz et al. (1998) was no longer valid in early 1998, and that the period again changed during March or April 1998. The latter period change was accompanied by an increase in amplitude of the order of 10 percent. The existing data can be explained by a frequently changing period or by a possible cyclic variation in the O − C diagram indicating sudden changes, a binary system or the presence of two very closely–spaced pulsation frequencies.

Period change and δ Scuti pulsations of eclipsing binary star RZ Cassiopiae

RZ Cas is an Algol-type partial eclipsing binary, the secondary component of which has filled its Roche lobe. Its visual magnitude is 6.18 and its period is 1.195 days. The most important characteristics of RZ Cas are period change (due to mass transfer) and anomalies in the primary minimum of its light curve (due to δ Scuti pulsations). In this paper, light curves of RZ Cas are obtained using ...

Four New δ Scuti Pulsators from a Variability Survey of 131 Stars

In a photometric variability survey of 131 stars with B . 14 mag, we have found four new δ Scuti stars. We were sensitive to oscillation amplitudes as low as a few mmag. The detection rate of short-period (P < 0.1 d) pulsating variable stars, which may be relevant for planned large variability surveys such as GAIA, POI, and even the LSST, was therefore 3%. All four new variable stars have low p...

The first high-amplitude δ Scuti star in an eclipsing binary system

We report the discovery of the first high-amplitude δ Scuti star in an eclipsing binary, which we have designated UNSW-V-500. The system is an Algol-type semi-detached eclipsing binary of maximum brightness V = 12.52 mag. A best-fitting solution to the binary light curve and two radial velocity curves is derived using the Wilson–Devinney code. We identify a late-A spectral-type primary componen...

Period changes of δ Scuti stars and stellar evolution

Period changes of δ Scuti stars have been collected or redetermined from the available observations and are compared with values computed from evolutionary models with and without convective core overshooting. For the radial pulsators of Pop. I, the observations indicate (1/P) dP/dt values around 10 year with equal distribution between period increases and decreases. The evolutionary models, on...
